Morning edition.

This short piece is about the mental and moral effects of fascism. Even for resistors, it takes a toll.

Hope you’ll read and share.

Moral Contamination: MAGA’s Program to Hollow You Out

Thinking people who have experienced authoritarian repression often describe feeling sullied and compromised by the regime, even if they didn’t support it directly. The Czech dissident V…

@xankarn Short but important!
" #fascists want you to feel demoralized" - indeed. I just wrote it in an article about #coping mechanisms yesterday: "And extremist parties are only too happy to jump into this vacuum of feeling helpless".

The best method, as you say, is not to let yourself be isolated and to strengthen each other.

@NatureMC @xankarn I love seeing people talking about this stuff.

We do all need to stay aware of aspects of the news to kind of...brace ourselves for what to expect. Like, if you have a tumor, you need your doctor to tell you and you need to listen.

But, we need to seek life. To be reminded of why we fight, why we still want a few more sunrises and sunsets and...importantly...we need people around us who fight with us. Don't diminish the pain but also seek to minimize the effects of it.

@NatureMC @xankarn Its hard to find that line and why its so hard to be there for a grieving person. Some folks need to talk about the darkness and others need to surround themselves in light. And, finding who needs what is something that you can't anticipate. Sometimes people are angry and it can be hard to still sit and hold their hand...or to at least demonstrate that you will when they're ready.

@NatureMC

This is fantastic. Thank you for posting!

I’m in my head a lot. I process much of this stuff “intellectually.” The focus here on emotions and emotional wellbeing is great.

@xankarn Thanks! 😊 It's often my way, too. I learnt it the hard way. #Caring for someone with mental illness, I was at the edge of a total burnout. Talks with his official guardian helped me to see the dangerous spiral between this "intellectual brainwork", re(!)-acting to supposed external expectations, and self-neglect. *Everybody* has the right to a "healthy egoism": #careWork for yourself and your emotions. Acting for being resilient.
#Carers know about that dilemma.

#resilience
