bluesky on the other hand has extended the #cryptobro con job

1. make a dazzling promise
2. don't deliver on the promise ( #decentralization)
3. nevertheless harvest feverish cult devotion on the promise, be damned the reality
people out there enthuse about decentralization and bluesky

Bluesky and Mastodon are the same. But they have different protocols.
You can create your own server and communicate with others, right?

there is no decentralization on bluesky
technologically there is
but implementation is one big wonking centralization
there's northsky and blacksky and others
but they are mostly developing as different silos
rather than integrated like how mastodon/ fediverse is thousands of open servers, warring with each other and suspending and refederating in an endless low grade fractured babel
i much prefer the latter drama than a fake promise

In a cute way Fedi is more organic in the way it mimics the boiling and roiling of living creatures and on a larger scale, ecosystems of organisms. The inherent resiliency of distributed systems as opposed to monolithic ones is remarkable also.

Building and maintaining a fediverse instance is far from effortless, but blacksky and such seem to have needed to create a lot of in-house patches over holes in atproto to make it work.

unfortunately there are a lot more crypto bro quality minds out there than those who can see a difference between promise and reality
