💡 Proposal for ActivityPub: FediStamp

What if any federated platform (Mastodon, WordPress, Pixelfed, PeerTube, WriteFreely...) could offer automatic certification of original content?

When publishing a poem, article, photo or video, you check "Certify original content" and the system gives you:

🔗 A public verifiable link to the registry

📄 A .fedistamp file as permanent proof

✅ A visible badge (Certified content) with clickable link

🧩 Metadata embedded in ActivityPub that travels with each share

Example: I publish a poem on Mastodon, enable the option, and instantly get my ✓ certified proof of authorship.

👉 This doesn't replace copyright (which already protects you), but strengthens it with technical evidence of authorship and date.

⚡ Key points:

Only registers the content hash (no cryptocurrency, just authorship certification).

Free.

Opt-in: you choose what to certify.

Automatic protection for creators across the federated ecosystem, without relying on centralized platforms.

I'm not a programmer, just a writer who sees the need. If someone technical sees merit and feasibility, go ahead.

Merci

If this is your first time on the #Fediverse, the instance (server) that you are on, may not be all that suitable and that is fine. It's OK to change.

Check out https://fedidb.com/ or https://fediverse.observer/ for different servers.
Avoid the 'official' Mastodon servers (mastodon.social and mastodon.online) where possible. Moderation is lacking to say the least.

#Mastodon is NOT the #Fediverse - There are other platforms which have the underlying technology (ActivityPub). Some of those are #Pixelfed, #Sharkey, #Lemmy, #NodeBB, and some applications have plugins/add-ons that enable AP, such as #WordPress

However, I don't Think that Wikipedia Commons or #pixelfed could be connected to other academic information systems.

For this. I Think that a multiple platform strategy could work.

@HeidiSeibold
I put all of my animations on Wikimedia Commons. And while they all could in principle go on a Wikipedia page, in practice only 10% or so are.
The admins there care a lot about licence and proper categorization, but are not strict in term of what the image represent. 🙂

I like the Wikimedia Commons idea, but maybe #pixelfed https://pixelfed.org/ would also work?

@timbray @dansup the migration feature of Pixelfed has been broken for soon 2 years... I have zero hope that the one of Loops would fare any better.

Made me give up on Pixelfed etc completely.

@gedankenstuecke @timbray Same here. After being with #Pixelfed from quite the beginning, I discovered that migrating between PF-instances still doesn't work. Screwed up one instance after trying to migrate and went to @vernissage completely: Less hazy announcements, great basis and steady and calm development.

Was hard to relinquish Pixelfed after those years but feels definitely better now.
