#MothOfTheDay

A cloudy, mild, still night last night prompted the moth box. Only 6 moths in total, but best was this very handsome:

BLACK RUSTIC
Aporophyla nigra

I love the coal matte black colour with just a hint of sparkly gold. Common in southeast this time of year. Larvae feed on dock and grasses

Side on shot of a 2cm moth on a finger. It faces right. It is matte coal-black in colour. It has a slightly furry black head, a visible pitch black rectangular stigmata halfway down and then a thin sliver of gold in a shallow arc about two-thirds down.

Overhead shot of a 2cm arrowhead shaped moth on terracotta. It is chunky. It is a dark, matte coal black with two pitch black angled rectangular stigmata about halfway down, one on each wing. Two thirds down there are two slivers of eyebrow-shaped shallow arcs of sparkly gold, which give a fantastic contrast to the black. These edge the top of another pitch black stigmata which is disc shaped
