@Free_Press no context, but I assume they are referring to the Second World War. In which case the obligation was mutual - each side supported and helped the other.

Or are they suggesting that Russia solely fought the war on behalf of their western allies?

Or perhaps they are talking about their “generosity” in “allowing” the Baltic states to become independent. Good luck with that!
