Zohran Mandami is having genuine and whole-hearted fun running for #NYC mayor. y’all have no idea how big that plays in this land of cynics. we can smell phonies a million miles away.

yes, people voted for phony Adams last time because, unfortunately, people were confused by the new primaries system and we got stuck with him.

not this time.

nyc wants a bullshit-free socialist for mayor. no nepobabies or bootlicking ACABs this time around.

the election is Nov 4th.

IIRC, after all the rounds of ranked choice last time, Adams won by less than 1%

I think the bigger factor in him winning was the constant crime screaming that every newspaper was doing all the time which people had not gotten quite as desensitized to

@blogdiva

Mamdani's campaign was also a great way of reinforcing and educating people on how the ranked choice voting works. I feel like one of the barriers to voting is some people who've never done it before might think it's more complicated or confusing than it is (where to go, how to register, how ranked choice itself works etc.)

By mobilizing so many people to vote I think he's guarunteed that a lot more people will vote generally now, which is hugely valuable.

@blogdiva you have to follow @emilylowan - just won leadership of the BC Greens age 25, with 2 MLAs holding an NDP gov in power, she holds the keys, campaigned far left, won in a landslide .... there is hope

Progressives are on our side. They don't pretend to care, like democrats do. They care.

@jackyan WAIT! that’s why i’ve had this sense of dejavu with you? you ran in 2021? i’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out where i’ve heard of you before. did you have like a whole contingency of young volunteers getting signatures for you here in downtown, Union Sq area? i guess, between long covid & cancer my brain was in traning wheels til i beat both last year. hurrah for socialist medicine.can’t wait for the socialist bodegas.

@blogdiva Long before that, in 2010 and 2013, in Wellington, New Zealand, though coincidentally a guy with the same (Anglicized) name ran in Toronto in 2022. I had a lot of young people volunteer, and we did a lot online, so others in lefty politics might have seen our stuff. Respect to you for beating both! I still get some long COVID brain fog … though the weather kind of sucks here lately and I wonder.
There are still some (embarrassing) campaign videos here:
