Via Mark Joseph Stern:

NEW: #SCOTUS *refuses* to let Trump fire the Fed's Lisa Cook—for now. Instead, the court agrees to hear the case in January. Cook may continue to serve in the meantime.

This order provides yet another indication that the Supreme Court will (1) let Trump fire the leaders of every other agency, but (2) maintain a lone carve-out for the Federal Reserve that prevents him from firing its members without a good, legitimate reason.

@GottaLaff Well I'll be damned. I was sure they were going to let him move forward now. I'll take it as a win.

@GottaLaff I suppose not wanting Trump to send the US economy into a stagflation/hyperinflation freefall via monetary policy in addition to fiscal policy is something at least. Though how they're planning to justify that some independent agencies can be fired, and others cannot ... Oh well. SCOTUS just does whatever they want these days, and it doesn't have to be internally consistent to any law, con law, or case law. I'll still take the rare win.
