In last night’s speech, Putin apparently hoped that after three years, no one remembers how people were held at gun point in their own homes to vote or else, and he now describes his 2022 “referendum” in the occupied parts of Ukraine as people “freely and independently” choosing “to be with the fatherland.

I wonder, if Putin’s delusions have become so strong he actually believes his own words. Hitler did, and in the end that made him unable to make sound decisions.

@randahl

Power literally goes to the head of narcissists, and they become increasingly detached from reality. The goal of any narcissist like Putin, Trump, or Hitler is that you believe them, and only them, not anyone else nor reality itself.

"I wonder, if Putin’s delusions have become so strong he actually believes his own words. Hitler did, and in the end that made him unable to make sound decisions."

@randahl Dictators typically put themselves in closed systems where the only option left for their short-term survival is to double-down. Xi was the only one who avoided that trap when he canceled the 'zero-covid' delusion. The others are too far-gone or not smart enough to do that. Xi has bought his system much more time this way.

@randahl At a minimum he is signaling his unaccountability.

Behaving as if one is unaccountable is a form of dominance.

It is always intimidation and aggression with that crowd.

@spdrnl next he is going to — out of the blue — rename The Gulf of Mexico. No wait, Trump already did that.

@randahl The irrationality adds to the goal of intimidation.

Think of it. If some is irrational and crazy, that person is more likely to lash out without being held accountable.

Of course courts catch up in the end; but rarely with the whole malicious crowd.

There is more to the irrationalism, and the fact that it supports intimidation and avoids being held accountable is no coincidence.

@randahl just imagine the vast echochamber he is in, when everybody who hints dissent suddenly falls out of the window.

@randahl If Pootin does go the way of the Hitler, then offing himself would be more mercy than he ever deserves.
