@pluralistic I'm a huge fan of having separate drives for OS and data. That way you fix/change/upgrade/update one without effecting the other. Your dd/resize operation wouldn't have hurt the bootability of a data only drive. Mount your data drive at /home on the root drive.
@pluralistic I'm interested in finding more organizations like futo.org that identify and financially support promising open source projects. They've already made great strides with things like immich and FUTO keyboard.
Does anyone know of other organizations with similar goals?
@pluralistic@mamot.fr Honestly, these days, when I see an app with a "to polished" UI/UX I get nervous. I've begun to associate the easy friction-less onboard flows with exploitation.
Meanwhile, the kind crunchy, awkward, experiences from small companies and open source begins to feel more authentic, trustworthy, and organic.
I'm sure there are cases where abusive companies make bad interfaces (I'm looking at you, Jeppesen), but mainstream companies are next-level.
@pluralistic I don’t understand this part:
> We don't have to choose between safety and freedom. We can have both. Jefferson had it wrong when he wrote, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Isn’t the point of the article that Jefferson was right and we should strive for both and not trade one for another?
"Being an Apple customer is like being in a 24/7 BDSM relationship…without a safe-word. "
🤣🤣🤣🤔
@pluralistic Random unrelated thought: In Brazil, there is a popular brand of green apple-flavored taffy that is called Lilith. It took me decades to understand the reference. And now I just looked up the name of the company that makes them, and it's Cory 😀
