A WI judge charged w/helping a man in her court briefly evade immigration authorities added prominent conservative atty & leading #SCOTUS advocate #PaulClement to her defense.

#HannahDugan, a #Milwaukee County circuit judge, was charged Friday w/obstructing a govt proceeding & concealing an individual to prevent arrest.

Clement, a US solicitor general during the Republican admin of George W. Bush who has argued >100 cases before #SCOTUS, has clashed with the #Trump admin in other cases.

He is representing WilmerHale in its lawsuit challenging an #ExecutiveOrder Trump signed last month targeting the #US#LawFirm's business w/federal contractors & restricting its access to government officials and buildings.

Clement also opposed the #Trump admin's bid to withdraw the federal corruption case against #NYC Mayor #EricAdams w/the potential to refile charges. A judge earlier this month dismissed the case permanently after Clement, acting as a court-appointed adviser, said it would otherwise hang over Adams like a "sword of Damocles."

#HannahDugan's arrest Friday was part of an escalating dispute between the admin & local officials over #immigration enforcement.
