The feds also claimed the South Shore neighborhood was “a location known to be frequented by Tren de Aragua members and their associates,” but #DHS gave NO EVIDENCE to support the assertion, & authorities did not confirm that any of the people arrested were members of the Venezuelan gang.

On Wednesday, toys, shoes & food were still in piles in the building’s hallways. Property managers were seen throwing mattresses & broken doors into dumpsters.

When he got home from work, Dan Jones said he entered his unit to find all of his electronics & furniture missing, & all of his clothes & shoes thrown on the floor. Jones said he had no idea who took his belongings & hadn’t received answers from #Chicago #police [probably because they had nothing to do with it].

“I’m pissed off,” Jones said. “I feel defeated because the authorities aren’t doing anything.”

#Armed federal agents in #military fatigues busted down their doors overnight, pulling men, #women & #children from their apartments, some of them #naked, residents & witnesses said. Agents approached or entered nearly every apartment in the 5-story building, & #UScitizens were among those detained for hours.

“It’s a pretext for bringing #troops into the city & normalizing the #militarization of our cities, & we just won’t allow that,” said #JBPritzker during a press conference from his state offices in downtown #Chicago.

Of the federal #immigration & customs agents already operating in #Illinois, Pritzker accused them of wreaking “chaos” & “havoc” across communities. “They’re not targeting violent criminals or gang members. They’re arresting tamale vendors & delivery men & shaking down families.”

While Orr was never named by #Kirk, they say Kirk’s rhetoric helped fuel an environment that makes #transgender Americans vulnerable to violence and that has paved the way for the removal of their #CivilRights; in February, #Iowa became the first state in the country to take away legal civil rights protections for transgender residents.

As the #Trump admin wages the broadest attack on #CivilRights in a century, & the shared societal values of #multiculturalism & tolerance recede, using Kirk’s knack for vigorous argument to excuse the re-emergence of unabashed #bigotry in #mainstream #politics feels both frightening & perilous.

And while #Trump has surrounded himself with people who have said #racist things & maintained ties to #white & #Christian #nationalists, the number of #Democrats & esteemed American institutions that have engaged in the mainstreaming of #CharlieKirk demonstrates that espousing open & explicit #bigotry no longer relegates one to the fringe of political discourse, a phenomenon we have not witnessed since the #CivilRights era.
