Just a note for everyone who cares about #water in the western United States: October 1st marks the start of the new water year.

In addition to inflicting political #oppression, #Iran is in the throes of an #economic & #energy #crisis with plunging currency, sky-high #inflation, #unemployment, & #water & #power cuts. The economic situation is bound to get even worse with the return of #UN Security Council #sanctions that went into effect on Saturday.

While #coal plants once generated nearly half of America’s #electricity, they produced just 16% last year. Hundreds of coal plants have retired since the mid-2000s as utilities switched to #NaturalGas, #wind & #solar power. Stricter #regulations on #air & #water #pollution have also made burning coal more expensive. Coal #mining, which has been linked to significant air pollution & water contamination as well as #BlackLung #disease in coal miners, has also faced increased federal restrictions.

Another example of the pettiness and threat of the Trump administration's censorship and deletion of science: USEPA used to have tools and training for #water utilities to build system resilience in the face of extreme weather, including #climatechange. That website is gone. Poof.

@gerrymcgovern And we shouldn't forget the huge amount of wasted #drinkingWater - and these data centers are often built in regions where they cause #desertification.
And our drinking #water reserves are already declining due to climate change.

I recently bought some reusable handwarmers that need to be boiled to reset them, but I've had to experiment to get the timing right otherwise they don't go back to their original state.
