During our hike earlier this week I was reminded that hunting season is upon us and it's a good idea to start wearing my hi-vis gear, as many places I frequent are also used by backcountry hunters. In the #pnw hunts will occur from the last week in September through November. Wear a hi-vis vest and/or hat.
I appreciate that every interaction I've had with backcountry hunters has been positive and respectful. It's good to remember that hikers, hunters, fishermen, mountain bikers, and equestrians are generally allies. We all love the outdoors and care about protecting wild lands and wildlife.

We checked out some logging land that we hadn鈥檛 been to before. A beautiful day for exploring!
Spent two nights in the Mt Margaret wilderness, just north of Loowit (Mt St Helens) and Spirit lake. Sunday was wet and cold. We stayed dry, but were not prepared for how cold it was. And I'll tell you something, I would rather be huddled cold in my sleeping bag, watching the stars wheel over the mountain and waiting for sunrise than comfortable in this so-called civilization. I know which one makes me feel alive.
