I'm not sure a workable definition of "social media" is actually possible. The one you give, which is better than most I've seen, is still arguably stretchable to cover voice phone calls that happen to be carried over IP networks.

Scientists retrieved unpublished data from the 1977 "Wow!" signal captured by the #Arecibo radio telescope as part of the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (#SETI), reanalyzed it with modern tools, and improved our understanding of where it came from and what might have caused it.

In his complaint, Borges said #DOGE members copied the data to an internal agency server that only DOGE could access, forgoing the type of “independent security monitoring” normally required under agency policy for such sensitive data & creating “enormous vulnerabilities.”

As a scientist, this is extremely disturbing. The day-to-day tools that we use to collect and share information are being subtly corrupted by manufacturers who are more concerned with marketing than science. We now have to worry about another layer of integrity checks.
