The village of Portmeirion, Gwynedd, Wales, was built in a surreal, Italianate style between 1925 and 1975. It served as 'The Village' in the cult 1960s TV programme, The Prisoner. This show featured a man - Number 6 - being chased by a large white balloon, constantly insisting he was not a number, and clashing with authoritarian figures such as Elizabeth I and Napoleon. Portmeirion has also featured in Dr Who, Citizen Smith, and in a music video for Siouxsie and the Banshees, which featured clips from The Prisoner. #TV#Architecture #weird #gothic #history#Wales #folklore #psychogeography
