This went on for over 100 years and most people do not even know the details of residential schools.

A thoughtful Truth and Reconciliation Day to all in this place called Canada. 🍁

May we collectively pause and consider what has happened, what continues, and what must happen in future to be better.

The past is still very very present here in Nuuchanulth territories.

The last buildings of the old Christie IRS on Meares Island near Tofino will be demolished October 9th. Survivors are invited to witness and/or participate. Link to news story below.

Old Christie Residential School outbuildings to be demolished – Ahousaht Ha’wiih invite survivors to healing event | Ha-Shilth-Sa Newspaper

Survivors of Christie Indian Residential School are invited to witness the demolition of the remaining buildings that were once part of old Christie Residential School, located on Meares Island in Ahousaht traditional territory. “Former students at Christie school will have the opportunity to witness and/or participate in the demolition of the three remaining buildings,” reads the invitation.

The water looks flat, but there are small waves going into the beach. On the shore above the beach is a collection of buildings. They look steer. The sky is gray cloud cloudy.

Consider this when you think of all the tourists that go to Tofino and the West Coast. One of the most famous resorts, Tin-Wis Best Western Resort.

“Old Christie, as it was commonly known, closed in 1971 and the children were moved to a new complex located at the site of Tin Wis Best Western Resort, in Tla-o-qui-aht traditional territory. New Christie Residence closed in 1983, making it the last of the Indian Residential Schools in the province of British Columbia.”

Most of the tourists have no idea the trauma that occurred there.

Strength and healing to all survivors and their families today, and every day. 🧡

And by coincidence the AV News is running this impactful story of personal reconciliation for an Indigenous woman who is now a manager at the Tin-Wis Resort.

Thanks for everyone honoring #OrangeShirtDay !!!

Realities today: Just saw my Cree friend that lives in the neighborhood. He was worried about the National Guard or ICE deporting him to Canada, as they infiltrate Chicago.

US borders are post-colonialism, and should not apply to #Native and #Indigenous people at minimum.

"Ecuador is undergoing a national strike called by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) and other organizations. The increase in fuel prices and the dictates of the IMF are the causes.

"As the Ecuadorian people complete 11 days of national strike, the government has ordered a curfew and cracked down on those who are mobilizing.

"The violence perpetrated by the Noboa government against Indigenous, student, and union organizations has left 55 people detained and many others assaulted by the police."
