Six weeks ago, I bicycled down from Grimsel Pass in the Swiss alps. I got completely carried away by the magnificent views. Almost down from Grimsel Pass, I suddenly had a flat tyre. I attributed it to the fact that the rims of my Brompton had gotten to hot from me pushing the breaks too long. After changing the inner tube, I continued up to Furka Pass.

Yesterday, I had a detailed look at the broken inner tube; funnily enough, it was OK. Any thoughts?

@kcposch Unfortunately, I don't have the answer. But two questions: I zoomed into your picture and noticed that on top of your luggage you carry a "Schwalbe Marathon Plus" tire. Did you ever need an additional tire? Does this one fit on your C-Line? My bike repair shop tells me that there is only enough space for "Schwalbe Marathon".

@KlausGerdGiesen @kcposch Having had Schwalbe Marathon sidewall failures last year and this, I can understand people who choose to carry a spare tyre. However, I have managed to finish my journeys in both cases (across Spain and Germany, respectively) by using an improvised 'boot' to repair the tyre.

I have also found that Marathon Plus tyres can be fitted without a problem. However, I usually use the lighter standard Marathon tyres.

@fix_it_bob @kcposch On our recent tour my partner's Schwalbe Marathon tires had *both* after only 900 km suddenly cracks all over (and as a result one flat tire), while me riding the very same road with the same but older Schwalbe Marathon tires had nothing.

@KlausGerdGiesen I carry an extra tyre mainly for peace of mind since not every bicycle repair shop has this size on stock. Yes, I needed the extra tyre on tour once. It was when the originally mounted tyre, a Schwalbe Marathon Racing, gave up in the middle of Sweden's nowhere after using it for 1500 km only. Since then, I have only used Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres. They fit nicely on the Brompton C-line. I change them after about 6000 km.

@KlausGerdGiesen If I remember correctly, I read about someone complaining about a repair shop not wanting to put on Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres on a Brompton. The complaint was about the difficulty to get the tyre onto the rim due to its stiffness. I have meanwhile repeated this procedure ten times on our Bromptons and I do not see any unusual difficulties in getting them on.

@kcposch Ok. Thanks. I would prefer to have the Marathon Plus. I will anyway get them on my brand new G-Line which will be delivered soon.
