1. it's a cost center: you need to pay #moderators
2. it squelches #bigots and #trolls
but they mean outrage -> eyeballs and clicks -> engagement, their bread and butter
@benroyce @skeptiker @bjo The signs were all there during the first t&c and discussions of moderation. It benefitted for a while with the invitation-only thing, but it was always going to end up here.
@benroyce @bjo Most people would first have to familiarize themselves with the possibilities of the BS moderation system. Especially those who go to Mastodon and suddenly find themselves in a much less complex system, reduced to muting and blocking, where moderation and instance ownership are combined (which would require them to be competent in all areas of discrimination), show that they have mostly failed to understand the possibilities offered by ATProto.
