APROPOS OF EVERYTHING

MIT created the mathematical proof we are living in a protracted #classWar waged by the parasitic capitalist classes.

Living Wage Calculator
https://livingwage.mit.edu/

❝ We developed the Living Wage Calculator to… estimate the local wage rate that a full-time worker requires to cover the costs of their family’s basic needs where they live…❞

in Manhattan, a living wage should be $33/hour.

the purpose of a capitalist is to keep us in debt & poverty

a table of the base minimum annually expenses for people without children and up to 3 kids. it includes food, housing, internet, health care, etc.

i’ll focus on the required annual income, AFTER TAXES, needed to live in NYC. this presumes the worker is exposed to the vagaries of housing without rent-control pricing:

0 Children - $56,138
1 Child - $95,156
2 Children - $117,239
3 Children - $145,871

@blogdiva I wonder what would happen if even 10-15% of the people working for less than a living wage in expensive locations took their skills to other markets where the cost of living was lower.

@blogdiva @DoomsdaysCW I did this for my county in Idaho and min wage is *lower* than poverty wage by 27¢/hour.

@blogdiva My daughter's union just sent a note with the information for Boston--$30.74--and the East Bay area--$30.91. Meanwhile, baristas there make $18 as the base pay starting. LITERALLY perpetuating the debt and poverty.

@blogdiva Great idea and it gets a lot right but, even assuming the food costs are only groceries, they seriously underestimated the costs for San Diego. I'm frugal, but those numbers are too low. IOW, the wages should be even higher.

Absolutely it's a class war we're fighting. No question.

@LeslieBurns @blogdiva As a fast food worker here in San Diego, I’ve found the food banks here in City Heights to be a great resource! https://feedingsandiego.org/
