@benroyce
It gets worse, IMO.
Since when has requesting mods to suspend an account been harassment?
At least on fediverse if there is a flurry of reports about an offensive account they take action not complain about it.

@benroyce
I saw some posts on this and didn't know what was going on. There will be more of these trolls coming as Bluesky gets more visibility. Why not just block them?
you can't just block them for the same rationale you articulate:
more will come if they get a foothold
@benroyce
There are many trolls there already. I have a long block list. Now I have almost no issues.
well then the issue becomes
"bluesky is a positive space for those who wish to escape the bigoted degradations of twitter et al"
vs
"bluesky also welcomes bigots, you just have to maintain a comprehensive blocklist"
you can see why this pisses people off
@benroyce thought this was a good time to go to my seldom used bsky account and remind the few people I know there that Mastodon exists 😁
@benroyce Thanks for explaining. I'm on Bsky, too, and as I subscribed to blocklists (he is in all of them), I never saw the content. So understood nothing.
Drama Queen "Jay" even made it into techcrunch: https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/13/bluesky-is-at-a-crossroads-as-users-petition-to-ban-jesse-singal-over-anti-trans-views-harassment/
Here's the petition of 2024 and why Singal violated the guidelines already in that year: https://www.change.org/p/bluesky-must-enforce-its-community-guidelines-equally
@benroyce I deleted my BlueSky a day after the "Waffles" thing. If you're going to behave like Meta, then you don't need my presence on your site.
@benroyce their justification is that Singal hasn't infringed Bluesky's ToS. I spent an unhealthy time over there scrolling throw searches and replies to Jay, and honestly, I haven't seen any proof of infringement. Can you point some? (I'm asking in my earnest; never heard of this guy Jesse Singal before this mess)
@manualdousuario He is a journalist who began with "controversial" articles about trans people, but is meanwhile openly transporting hate against trans and LGTBQ+ people, and he believes in "conversion therapy". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Singal
A lot of people (including a petition) were asking to suspend his account because of this hate (I can't see what he wrote because he is on all my subscribed blocklists).
@manualdousuario more info: https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/13/bluesky-is-at-a-crossroads-as-users-petition-to-ban-jesse-singal-over-anti-trans-views-harassment/
And a #CW for this blog (because about his anti-trans hate actions) Already in 2017 he harassed trans-(friendly) people actively: https://juliaserano.blogspot.com/2017/12/my-jesse-singal-story_11.html - he even uses real names to guide his followers into shitstorms and aggressions.
"I have some doubts about banning someone for off-site or past actions"
if someone murders someone and drives to the state border, does the murderer get away and the police give up?
of course if someone gets a parking ticket and drives to the state border, they do get away, because it's not a big crime
the issue here is this person is a major figure for transphobia
and you allude to a slippery slope. there is no slippery slope. Singal is far from any grey area
@manualdousuario The "troubled guy" is a journalist with deep impact (and loved by Trump & Co).
If you don't think it's enough to ban an account of a bloke using his followers to attack people, even at their workplaces, then I can't help you either. On Mastodon, he would have been suspended immediately.
I'm proud to be here with the server rule "No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or casteism" because it's part of *human rights*!
@manualdousuario Past actions: The bluesky problem with Singal isn't new, his account *was* already 2x suspended, there was a petition on change org in 2024, but then Graeber stepped in again, against the old moderation, against trans people. Then the account was flagged and unflagged and so on.
And she is the one who immediately banned people for criticising Kirk!
What he did: https://www.change.org/p/bluesky-must-enforce-its-community-guidelines-equally
Yes, this world works with context.
@NatureMC A petition won’t change anything at a company that is for-profit. Their far-right owners are happy this is happening.
@DarthAstrius I didn't link to the petition for signing (it's from last year) but for documenting what he did (it's in the text) because someone here doesn't believe it.
@benroyce Meltdown is the apt word. When I saw her reactions, I was torn between "why does this woman react like in kindergarten" and "did she take some wrong drugs?" It was so confuse and against all manners when you are in such a position. (Many compared her with a wannabe-Musk for that).
@privateblack @benroyce
Yup, fedi is better.
I pop over to Bsky once in a while for a few minutes at a time , but if they continue in the same direction I won't hesitate to delete my account.
The other social media platforms? I deleted those accounts years ago.
@benroyce @SnowyCA Ordinarily, these people separate work from their personal views. I do this every day, it's called compartmentalization, as I'm sure you know.
If they are shitposting (as we see they are) on their own business, something really fucking weird is going on.
Meltdown diagnosis confirmed.
