I wonder if anyone will discuss the transnational growth of the far-right movement (1) or Germany's change in vote on the Chat Control proposal at #Fediday today. (2)

The #Fediverse can be an important tool for discussing both topics. While most people still use big tech tools to spread disinformation and undermine democracies, we must continue to engage with those who are not easily swayed by an obsolete model that finances fascism. (3)

If I could be there, that'd be the main topics I would be discussing.

P. S. Yesterday, while I was explaining the concept of federation to some young people, a young Indian woman asked, "So why should I leave Instagram?" To my left was an Egyptian who works at one of the major tech companies, and I said we should be careful of potential spies. I was glad she could connect the dots on the question of who was kissing up an actual powerful dictator wannabe at the US presidential inauguration.

Leave X - Protect Democracy

Why the argument that you have to stay on social networks to provide opposition is complete nonsense

1.0utf-8 Author: Mike Kuketz, translated from the original in German The argument that you can’t leave platforms like X or TikTok because there would otherwise be a lack of “dissent” and “opposition” is untenable for several reasons - it’s simply complete bullshit. It is based on a false assumption about how these platforms work and what impact one’s presence there actually has.

How the far right is expanding its international network – DW – 02/08/2025

Radical right-wing movements like Germany's AfD party are on the rise worldwide. They are united by nationalism, populism and the fight against immigration. Their network is becoming increasingly transnational.
