Came across this looking for something else, and felt moved to share it because of the current attacks on the OBR and the spicy interventions on migration from the Green Party leadership:

As ever note that most immigration is via work/study/dependant visa route (which is a fact at variance with public perception) incurring huge visa charges including an eye-watering NHS surcharge.

Don’t @ me about GDP, I’m just pointing out that there is probably an easy win here for what you might call rational politics contra ethno-nationalism if you have the rhetorical skill (which I don’t) and are a politician (which I am not).

Latest data from the ONS suggest that net migration to the UK was higher than previously thought in recent years, while it's also projected to be higher than previously expected. In this box, we presented our migration forecast and its impact on labour supply. As there is considerable uncertainty around the outlook, we also considered alternative scenarios for net migration and its economic impact.
