We have a great improved feature on Mastodon: Click the 3 points on a profile that follows you and you find "remove XY from your followers" ... it's the quiet, smooth version to get rid of someone. (You find it only if you don't follow XY: then you have to unfollow before making a soft block.)
This feature was previously hidden away in the preferences and quite complicated with searching accounts.
