Dictators need military personnel to kill citizens that try to prevent dictatorship.

In a room full of US military leaders, Trump tries to convince them, the US military should fight US citizens in the streets of America.

Zero applause from the audience. Zero.

@randahl my father was career military. The norm is to offer little or no applause at these sorts of things. You will see it across commander in chiefs. Same or similar non to polite reaction.

@randahl I would like to point out that servicemembers are not supposed to clap for political figures. The fact that he got cheering and applause from the troops at Fort Liberty shows that the audience he was addressing here are senior professionals who have a keen awareness of what their role should be.

I really hope that these military leaders are now talking amongst themselves about what to do. At what point do they seriously consider a military coup?

Like how he speaks of "antifa" being a big threat. He is right, though. Anti fascists is a big threat to Trump, as it was to Hitler and Mussolini. So the use of the military to neutralize the "antifah" makes perfect sense. They don't even try to hide it anymore.

@randahl I overestimated once more the capability of the warrior princess Kegseth & big mac belly Felon 47. I was worried they had been informed about international incidents & called in their most precious - but this would be too complicated for them to handle after all. Come to think of it, which foreign force would trust them with sensitive information anyways.

Could the plan be the military decide to be true to their oath:

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States”

Meaning they take over the government, imprison the likes of Trump, Hegseth and others, clean up (part of) the mess Trump made and see to fair elections after making sure this fascist takeover will NEVER happen again.
Just a thought.

@ericschutte that is a difficult path, because Trump was in fact elected by the people. They would be committing an illegal act which they could be killed for.

They elected a president, not a dictator.
Small difference.
And don’t forget, we may want to follow the rules, they don’t.

They joined the military to protect the people. They are ideologically against it, hence the purge.

@randahl History and education.

The States fought an independence war against England because they didn't understand why they were being taxed for England's wars. "No taxation without representation."

After England was defeated, the states didn't want another federal army to wield too much power. Eventually they needed one because global power, sea control etc. was required for defence.

The second amendment is there to protect the states from a powerhungry federal army.

@randahl 1, I agree, the chances of these officers agreeing with this unhinged performance is very small, but 2) active duty US military are barred from political activities, any sort of outward endorsement, like applause, would likely lead to US Code of Military Justice review/proceedings. They are obligated to withhold applause here.
