@Em0nM4stodon When Vint Cerf was given an honorary degree at the 2013 Yale commencement, I walked past him on the sidewalk. He was wearing #Google Glass. I literally had the urge to hit him, and I'm not a violent person. And of course I admire Vint Cerf a lot for contributions to the Internet.

This #surveillance tech creates a visceral reaction in me, and I know I'm not alone. No spy tech is inevitable, but I fear it will eventually be normalized. Recording people without consent sure is now.

People defending this for accessibility, this isn't it. I especially call out this model because it uploads data to Meta's servers likely correlating it to advertising profiles and uses facial recognition.

If you use a similar technology that isn't developed by Meta, works offline, doesn't store data, respects people's privacy, and is especially designed for assistive capabilities then that's a completely different topic. Obviously. Please stop the whataboutism.

Anyone wearing such or similar technology demonstrates clearly they do not understand consent or have no intention of respecting consent, and should be treated like the danger they represent to others.
