I just finished reading "More Everything Forever" by Adam Becker.

It explores the delusions of tech CEOs, the philosophers they follow, and the sycophants and zealots who cling uncritically to their every whim.

TL; DR:

- AGI won't happen
- space colonisation won't happen
- billionaires must not exist

The hypocrisy never ceases to amaze me.

We don't know how actual intelligence works, yet we think we can synthesize it in software.

The right wing always claims that humanity isn't capable of causing climate change, yet they expect to be able to terraform another planet by.... causing climate change.

And just yes, we need to go all French Revolution on that shit.

@sb @briankrebs I think we'll eventually colonize space. There's too many resources in the asteroid belt, somebody's going to be greedy enough. And Antarctica is proof that just being utterly antithetical to human survival isn't as big a barrier as you might think.

I also think we'll get AGI, but most likely we'll stumble on it by accident rather than through any organized development and sure not any time soon.
