i'm not mentioning this as "look! china supports ukraine now!"

but china is, shall we say, subtly shifting

from the article:

so it's all very... subtle

i don't think china will do anything dramatic

i think china will continue to support russia materially and diplomatically

but you are correct china is sort of going "well... you know russia might lose, and we don't want to be stuck with putin, so, let's do a little smiling and charming, we need to hedge our bets here"
