Climate capitalism sees Governments invest in both green energy and fossil fuels

The global energy transition has become a capital-allocation race.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) projects US$3.3 trillion in total energy investment in 2025, with US$2.2 trillion in clean energy (IEA, 2025).

At the same time, fossil-fuel subsidies remain enormous, approaching US$7 trillion in 2022, meaning governments subsidise both clean & fossil energy (IMF, 2023

certain policies are seen negatively by a vast majority of the public in all the countries surveyed, including most notably taxes, like the ones on beef and flights and bans, or the ones on fossil fuel cars, receiving the lowest scores

The climate policies that EU citizens like (and those they don't)

A new survey—implemented within the research project CAPABLE—finds that several climate change mitigation policies are supported by a majority of the respondents across the European Union. For instance, 70% of the European population would support the creation of an EU Rail Fund, while 55% would support both household insulation mandates and banning private planes.

Seaweed as a climate fix for meat and dairy production: an LCA perspective

Results indicate that while certain seaweed additives can lower CH₄ emissions in vitro, real-world reductions in total GHG emissions remain modest. Energy-intensive processing and long transport distances can offset CH₄ abatement gains, with only scenarios utilizing low-impact by-products achieving net climate benefits

Climate change linked to landslide that buried Swiss village

In May, a landslide above Blatten in the canton of Valais buried most of the village under a mass of ice, mud and rock, an event that has prompted in-depth research. At a recent conference in Innsbruck, UZH researcher Christian Huggel presented his findings on the link between the landslide and climate change.

Brazil faces surge in mosquito-borne disease as climate change and urbanization intensify

A new study suggests that the risk of mosquito-borne illness in Brazil will rise significantly by the year 2080, but that climate action could help. Katherine Heath of the Burnet Institute, Melbourne, Australia, and colleagues present these findings September 18 in the open-access journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Warming climate—not overgrazing—is biggest threat to rangelands, study suggests

More than half of Earth's terrestrial surface is rangeland—vast open areas of native vegetation, suitable for grazing. These areas feed 50% of the world's livestock and support the livelihoods of more than 2 billion people. The continental U.S. is about one-third rangeland.
