I'm referencing the “Alligator Alcatraz” disaster in Florida, where 1200 people have disappeared without documents or any trace of what happened to them whatsoever.

This is something you'd expect from the axis in the 1930s or in an African Conflict zone. People being grabbed off the street by masked men in unmarked vehicles and driven off to remote, guarded locations without ever being legally processed or representation of human rights.

Family members can't find them, the government kept no paper-trail, and now they're just gone.

Whether a free and whole USA survives this is anyone guess, with their ultrarich having effectively suppressed meaningful resistance against authoritarianism through militarization of police, and vast economical pressure on the populace.

I dread the loss of a free and democratic USA would have on the world that accepted it as it's leader & defender.

If it was any other country than the USA, European leaders would be condemning this en masse. It would be treated similarly to the imprisonment and persecution of Uyghurs. Yet most of what has been said can only be described as Chamberlain-style appeasement.

America and Europe are supposed to be two sides of the diplomatic coin, that drives democracy, freedom, and growth in the world.

Instead, we're watching our leaders appease away any prospects of future prosperity, to be replaced by a replaying of the 1920-1940s.

Just a few similarities:

  • Global rearmament, especially in Europe
  • Russian expansionism
  • Full republican governmental control
  • High US tariffs & political isolationism
  • Economic crash(es)
  • Authoritarianism & hate on the rise
  • Wealth inequality on the rise
  • Polarization of politics alongside the breakdown of political decorum and ability to compromise
  • Misuse of police
  • Mass surveillance
