Greg Olear's long, rich essay today noting the parallels (and disjunctures) between Germany under Hitler and the US under Trump is too dense for me to offer small excerpts. I recommend reading the whole thing. Olear uses Sebastian Haffner's book Defying Hitler as a point of reference, and recommends that Americans read the book.
