I don't want to sound like an airhead optimist

#Ethnofascist #imperialism has a death grip on Russian leadership. #Russia can weather a lot of misery

But if sustained and deepened, #Ukraine's relentless #drone strikes on #oil #infrastructure really fucks up Russia in spectacular ways

It *will* pay dividends militarily and politically

@benroyce Plus, it is kinda fun watching the bully get a bloody nose. Russia has had an aura of untouchability. Now, they get the slap down and word has spread. Thank you Ukraine. You’ve done the world a service.

@benroyce Russians can endure a lot.. For glory.

But as soon as Russia doesn’t appear the glorious victor, the tables turn.

History shows: Russians do revolt. But only when they lose a war.

@benroyce slightly Red Storm Rising, but the starting position would be less favourable for Russia, with most of the Warsaw Pact on the other side.
And the USA being disunified.

Interesting times.

@benroyce At this moment, Ukraine, for all of its successes and failures and its unfortunate location next to its neighbor, is the ONLY nation actively fighting Russia.

The Russia that is causing a lot of death, misery to its neighbors and in African countries. And behind the rise of fascism in many, if not all Western countries.

Where in these Western countries, fascists are roaming the streets, often using violence, while they are often being protected by police and far right and traditionally established politicians.

Every Ukrainian video I watch, where they destroy Russian troops, I imagine those on the receiving end being 'our' Western fascists. And I genuinely hope they will face the same fate one day.
That is part why I cheer Ukraine on. Destroy every single Russian combatant. Destroy their leadership. Cut off the heads of this whole global crime syndicate.

@McWabbit @benroyce Exactly. Russia is absolutely one of the main architects of the current international fascist movement. A defeat for Russia is a victory for mankind.

If someone told me in 2015 "In 2025 the USA will fall to fascism and Ukraine will be the most militarily powerful beacon in the fight for democracy in the world" I would have laughed and laughed

Well I'm not laughing in 2025

Because it's true

@benroyce @McWabbit So far they have been tearing stuff down for 10 months. 38 more months to go before a theoretical election.

I do not think the us will recover from this. It takes time to build institutions and they are going in a hurry now.

The economy is on a slippery slope. Soon enough the tax income for the government will hurt for real.

@Paladin @benroyce @McWabbit I disagree. The US WILL recover from this. It won't be quick (not in my lifetime) and it won't be the same as before, but we will come back from this.

@SteveJB

Eh .. yes and no
The US that existed prior to 2016 is never coming back. That US is gone. Nobody will ever trust the US the same, see it in a default positive way again, or regard it as a partner again. Those days are done.

There is in my view, about a 70-80% chance that the US will Balkanize, and whether that is a hard or soft fracture is going to rest on massive turnout at the voting booth, and a far more engaged and adult voter.

@Paladin @benroyce @McWabbit a good midterm election could stop a lot of the madness, that's a lot closer, but given the damage done in 9 months already, 12 more months is still a very long wait. And the left better come in marching order, and smart, to win this, "look how bad trump is" is not going to cut it.
